These amethyst nails are done with a cooler shade of violet. This sort of design has been in trend these days! If there’s an intricate design you like, instead of having it printed all over your nails, you can have them painted on their edges instead. An amethyst stone with its natural cracks and sparkle. We have a nice full glitter nail and some marbled amethyst with gold foil. A mixture of a beautiful crystal and a vast galaxy nail design. Here’s a simple gradient of colors that resemble the crystal. This rich violet design has some nice blue flecks in its shimmer shade. Again, we’ve got some gold foil on top but the best part has to be the clear nail with nice reddish purple dried flower petals. This gives more of a frosted amethyst look. If you like this design, check out the moon and star nail art list as well. These resemble the beauty of the night sky. It’s definitely a look you could wear anywhere. The intricate design bordered by gold looks so opulent and clean at the same time. This looks like amethyst dripping off your nails. I think that the clear base makes it look so much cleaner. Here are some nice clear coffin nails with an amethyst pattern painted on top. The nice deep colors contrasted by the pops of white and gold make everything look so intricate. There’s a nice touch of gold foil on the edges making everything feel luxurious. Violet Paige isn't in the newest encyclopedia, but her measurements have been given as 6'0" and 180 lbs.In the recent issue of Red Hood and The Outlaws, it was revealed that thanks to a crazy plan by Roy, he manages to free and teleport Blackfire and himself back to the ship where she reunites with Starfire and apologizes for what she did to her. The Penguin (Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot) Using the most recent stats from the 3rd Edition of the DC Encyclopedia, we compiled all of the given ones for each Gotham-associated character we could find (it's a huge list, sorry):įlamebird/Hawkfire (Mary Elizabeth "Bette" Kane) Some of us did this on the CBR forums a while back. I posted this for discussion and to see what other characters heights and weights you guys might find and post. It can give a good mental image of what these characters could look like in real life, or what they shouldn't look like in real life. Though these numbers probably don't mean much now, or even when they were first introduced in the old continuity, they are fun to look at. Cass and Steph have solid, athletic builds compared to Tim, and even Barbara considering the age gap. They are about the same age as Jason, who I thought was at least 21 when he came back. ![]() Like I mentioned beforehand, these are Pre-Flashpoint numbers, but the ages of the two recent Batgirls amaze me. I can see now why he can take on Tim in hand-to-hand. He'll probably be heavier than Jason, and taller than Bruce in his prime. His size makes perfect sense with his acrobatic background.ĭamian is a built kid. He's got an above average height, and a good, lean ass - I mean weight. I provided the video because I was having a hard time imaging what somebody of that build would look like.ĭick is probably the most normally built person in the Bat-Fam. The weights in the video are in kilos, but just take those numbers times 2.2 for pounds. Jason is comparable in size to this man, Dmitry Klokov., a Russian weightlifter. Nobody really seems like the can physically oppose him, but Bruce. He's 100 lbs heavier than Tim, but only 7 inches taller. He's two inches shorter than Bruce, but 15 pounds heavier. But he could realistically be the size and strength of a 56 kilo weightlifter if he's done growing. Almost as old as Jason, so 18-19 years old. NOTE: I'm using Imperial units of measurement. I'll kick it off with Batman, the Robins (In order of appearance), and the Batgirls. These numbers are from the Pre-Flashpoint Universe, but from screens from the recent DC Encyclopedia that came out in like October I can say that most of these are still accurate. I came across the Bat-Family and I thought they were pretty interesting/funny/ridiculous. ![]() I was digging around the internet the other day, looking for heights and weights for DC characters. The typeface looks, even though its automatically generated, almost like an old typeface. In the typeface it’s possible to see marks made by pen, brushes or computer. Its very light, almost like a sketch with a skeletal structure. ![]() Primitiv is the first version, which was automatically generated. The typeface was based on the idea that the, let’s call it, “DNA” was only containing the letters “o” and “n”, and from those two letters on they built the complete Latin alphabet. Their type design is impossible to regenerate with either only traditional- or digital methods. ![]() In the result you can see the programmed randomness. Using a digital font and manual wood types, they wanted to contrast different kinds of typographic languages. Pictures of the handmade woodcuts they made for their typefaceīy combining these tools, they printed the posters seen in the beginning of the book. Then, with the digital font they created, they made wood types and an automatic layout tool. First they programmed a script that could automatically generate character sets based on a group of specified variables. This project is realised by several steps. The project “Creating tools, Using tools” earned Keshavjee and Tavelli the Federal Design Grant in 2009. The book is representing the graduation project of Keshavjee and Tavelli collaborated by other people. The size and the material makes the book approachable because it is not too big and heavy to open it. The size is a little bit smaller then A4-size, which I also like because it fits easily into my bag, and A4 mostly doesn’t. If you actually start to read this book you’ll find out the whole book is about this typeface and how they developed and produced it.Ī view into the book about their graduation project What I already mentioned in the beginning, is the typeface. What I don’t really like about that is that it’s vertical written, so you have to turn the book which is not very practical. Next you will see the table of contents and introduction. When you open the book you’ll see a very outstanding orange colour which I really like. What is this book about? Why did they situated the words like this? When you read it, Typeface as Program, more questions pop up. As the title is situated very small in the left corner, it draws you come closer. You also do not yet really understand what it is about and what you will find inside. ![]() It also seems like a book that makes you move closer, because you see the cover but you cannot read at first side what is written on the cover, because it’s vertical. I think this, and the typeface on the cover appealed to me the most at first sight. As seen in the picture, this cover contains the colours red, white and black. The first thing you will notice when you see this book is, of course, the cover. They graduated at the ECAL/University of Art and Design in Lausanne, Switserland. Noguchi’s iconic glass coffee table, the Eames leather and plywood lounge chair, Sarrinen’s plastic tulip chair, Adrian Pearsall’s gondola shaped sofas, all of these put an emphasis on the organic and functional. It is teak and melamine, has a space age motif on the top, the colour is described as malachite ( a hot colour trend for 2013) and it has the ubiquitous stick legs, that in this case flare outward. This dresser/sideboard is the perfect example: The spare, functional design of the Scandinavian movement can also be seen in the lack of ornamentation, and lighter woods. New materials such as plastic, melamine, formica and laminate were employed everywhere in a colour palette that was either pastel like pink, turquoise, pale yellow or bold colours such as orange, bright yellow and red. Or perhaps we’ll see the birth of a new design style, one that mirrors more accurately the anxieties of today.Legs were short, tapered, often with brass tips and some were metal and hairpin-shaped as in this picture: ![]() With all that’s happening today, I can’t help but wonder if we’ll see the resurgence of the atomic age visual trend as a reflection of the times. ![]() The Atomic Age design style is a perfect little capsule of the paradox between fear and optimism, and how society used art to tame the anxieties of its people. However, we should also recognize that we’ve made some giant leaps for humankind, with the Falcon 9 launch being the latest example. ![]() COVID-19 has thrusted the world into paranoia, and nuclear anxiety is still prevalent with the rising tensions between North Korea and the United States gracing the headlines. We still live in a time of uncertainty, but anxieties take the form of new unknowns. Looking back at the origins of the Atomic Age design era, it’s interesting to note how much of society has changed, and how much has not. Others argue that the shapes harken to a simpler time, when nature was ruled by the forms of living organisms such as plants and amoebas. Some say that the sleek, organic shapes of its designs were inspired by the media portrayal of nuclear exposure, rendering human beings into mutant forms. Taking influence from themes of atomic science, common characteristics include abstract shapes and bright colors. Hence, motifs of the atomic particles flooded the designs of middle-class households, from wallpaper to furniture, and what was depicted was a unique vision of the future. Some saw beyond the potential of the atom as a nuclear weapon, and saw its role as a new source of energy. CHARACTERISTICSīut within the political unrest of the 50s was a glimmer of hope. Schools demonstrated duck-and-cover drills in case of atomic bomb attack, fallout shelters were being built, media portrayal of nuclear attacks influenced the public conciousness and out came a design style that reflected the zeitgeist. ![]() With nowhere to run, Cold War anxieties permeated into every aspect of life. While the countries flaunted their firepower, citizens had no choice but to embrace the races on the sidelines, with fears of rising tensions leading to an all-out nuclear war. The 1950s were home to major technological advancement: the arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War extended from nuclear weapons to the space race, with both parties eager to prove their superiority as innovators at the frontiers of technology. The style of these posters take heavy inspiration from the atomic age. Soaring on the wings of a private company – SpaceX – this is also the first time since 2011 that American astronauts have been launched into space from American ground.Īs we celebrate the significance of this scientific milestone, I’d like to throwback to a bygone era of design that stemmed from a time of changing technology and space exploration – the Atomic Age of graphic design.ĭid you know: Back in 2015, SpaceX unveiled three retrofuturistic posters for Mars travel.
